SIMBA sailed through to FA quarter final stage after punishing Singida United 5-1 in a-one sided match at the National Stadium.
Simba looked determined to win the
encounter just from the start and managed to score an opener barely 3
minutes from the start. Danny Lyanga, who netted the opener, tapped home
a cross from Emiry Numubona.
In the 21st minute, Hamisi Kiiza added
the second after beating an offside trick to easily put the ball behind
the gaping net. The teams went for the breather with the host leading
2-0.
The second half saw more goals rolling
into the net from both sides. Simba added three more while Singida
United scraped a consolation goal in this period.
Kiiza who scored the second goal in the
first half added the third goal in 66th minute before Awadh Juma firing
home the fourth goal in the 83rd minute. Three minutes later Juma netted
the fifth goal before Singida pulled one back in 90th minute.
Pual Malamla netted the consolation goal
in the injury time to make it 5-1 at the end of the goal ingested
match. Singida United who played in the premier league a decade ago
looked toothless before the success hungry Msimbazi Street boys.
Besides scoring three goals in the
second half, many others were squandered in the period. Kiiza, Lyanga,
Brian Majwega, Mwinyi Kazimoto and Jonas Mkude wasted countless scoring
opportunities, a situation that benefited their opponents.
At CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza, Geita
Gold Mine also qualified for the quarterfinal after beating Toto Africa
1-0 in a closely fought encounter.
Kibuga Kibuga scored the winner in the
64th minute after connecting home a cross from Juma Nade. GGM are the
only first division side to qualify for the stage so far.
Also qualified to play in the quarter
final stage are Tanga-based Coastal Union who floored Mtibwa Sugar,
Young Africans who silenced JKT Mlale 2-1 and Tanzania Prisons who beat
their Mbeya rivals, Mbeya City 3-1 at Sokoine Stadium. The winner of the
Azam-backed FA Cup will represent the country in the CAF Confederation
Cup next season.
