While Bayern Munich might be losing Pep Guardiola to Manchester City this summer, the Bavarians will not be letting David Alaba follow a similar path to the little island. Alaba is set to sign a big contract extension to remain in Munich, according to Bild.
The reported extension will
keep Alaba with Bayern through the end of the 2020-21 season and
increase his yearly wage to €12 million. Alaba's current deal only runs
through the summer of 2018 and is for a reported €7 million per year.
The 23 year old Austrian has
been the quintessential utility player under Guardiola over the last
three seasons, as his versatility has allowed the Austrian to play all
over the field. Rumors in recent weeks have suggested that Guardiola
would try and sign Alaba when he arrived at Manchester City this summer,
but it would appear that Bayern don't want to give the Spaniard the
opportunity to dangle a transfer offer in front of Alaba.
If this report is correct, it
will be interesting to see when Bayern announce the news with the club
hosting Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday.
