The international exposure of Richard III's reinterment and Leicester City's football heroics have well and truly put Leicester on the map.
But what prospect of the city becoming the capital of England?
That's the view of TV personality and Radio 2 breakfast show presenter Chris Evans.
Speaking on this morning's programme, the 49-year-old DJ was full of
praise for the Foxes' achievements in the Premier League this season.
Sports presenter Vassos Alexander mused that for the past 11 seasons
the team top of the Premier League in February have gone on to lift the
title.
To which Evans replied: "That would be incredible if Leicester do that! Well done so far – no matter what happens next."
As the subject of Leicester kept rearing its head on the show, Evans
added: "Maybe Leicester's it, maybe Leicester's the future – if we can
access it by river.
If so, it could be the new capital."
After being told Leicester has the River Soar, he joked: "Oh, the River Soar, Leicester – excellent!
"Is it big? How's the port?"
Evans's banter certainly found favour with one of the city's biggest
new signings – incoming Bishop of Leicester, the Right Reverend Martyn
Snow., who is set to take up his role in late spring or early summer.
He tweeted: "So Chris Evans is proposing Leicester be made capital city. Sounds good to me."
And so say all of us.
